Wigan Athletic defender Chey Dunkley told iFollow Latics he was disappointed Latics couldn’t build on last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa as they lost 1-0 at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.
Steven Fletcher scored the only goal of the game just after the hour mark to condemn Latics to a frustrating away defeat.
Speaking post-match, Dunkley said:
“I don’t think they created many chances before they scored – probably half chances – but they got a lift from their goal and for us we are disappointed not to get a result.
“We want to try and get a run together, especially after winning last week, and it is tough to take.
“It was about trying to back the Villa win up today – even if it was with a point – but when they got their goal they rose in stature.
“This is a hard place to come and Fletcher has struck it well from distance – he probably used my body blindside JJ [Jamie Jones] but he had a bit of space and we probably needed to close it down a bit quicker – I haven’t watched it back but I will and we’ll see what we could have done better.
“I still felt even after their goal that we would get a chance but it just never come and it is disappointing to take.
“It didn’t fall for us today and there were moments in the game I still felt we were in the game and we could maybe nick one but we just have to evaluate and move forward.”
