Paul Cook’s Wigan Athletic will kick-off their 2019-20 Sky Bet Championship season at home to Cardiff City, following Thursday’s #FixtureReleaseDay announcement.
Neil Warnock’s side return to the second tier following relegation from the Premier League and begin life back in the EFL at the DW Stadium.
A week later, Latics will travel to local rivals Preston North End for a mouth-watering first away game of the season, with a large contingent of away fans expected to make the trip to Deepdale on the second weekend in August.
The big games will continue for Latics the following weekend as Leeds United visit the DW Stadium, before the first month of the campaign finishes with trips to Middlesbrough and QPR and a home clash with recently promoted Barnsley.
At Christmas, Latics travel to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday 21st December before hosting Derby County on Boxing Day at the DW. A trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday 29th December closes out 2019 before Latics host Birmingham City on New Year’s Day to start 2020.
At Easter, Cook’s side face a Good Friday home clash with QPR before an Easter Monday trip to Barnsley.
Latics are in the capital for their final away match of the season, travelling to Charlton Athletic on the penultimate weekend of the campaign before hosting Fulham on the final day of the season – Saturday 2 May (12:30pm kick-off).
