DONCASTER ROVERS V WIGAN ATHLETIC
TUESDAY 26 MARCH, KICK-OFF 12.00PM
Latics aim to extend their lead at the top of the Central League table when they travel to Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday afternoon, with Nick Chadwick’s side topping Rotherham United in first place.
An impressive 2-0 victory over Mansfield Town at the Impact Arena last week saw Latics climb to the top of the table, one point ahead of Rotherham who have a game in hand. Port Vale sit third, two points behind Latics with two games in hand.
Vital goals from Charlie Jolley and trialist, Josh Martin capped off an impressive victory for the young visitor’s team, which featured several under-18 players, including Emeka Obi, Will McGuffie, Luke Robinson and Charlie Jolley.
Latics last defeat in the Central League came against their opposition in January, losing 3-2 at Christopher Park, despite Charlie Jolley and Kyle Joseph both scoring for Chadwick’s side.
Rovers will be hoping to keep the pressure on third-placed Port Vale, sitting just one point behind the latter in the Central League table.
The hosts will be aiming to continue their impressive form of late, with three wins from their last five outings, including just one defeat.
Three impressive wins over Mansfield Town (1-0), Notts County (2-1) and Grimsby Town (3-0), have seen the club continue to rise up the table, though a frustrating defeat against Port Vale (0-1) saw the team drop down the table.
Latics’ right-back Tylor Golden made his debut for Droylsden on Saturday, whilst Olly Crankshaw featured for Curzon Ashton.
Chadwick will be provided with a squad boost with midfielder, Luke Burgess returning from his loan spell with Barrow and will be available for Latics.
Under 18 squad members Bobby Jones, Joe Gelhardt, MacKenzie O'Neill and Jensen Weir have all been away on international duty.
