WIGAN ATHLETIC V PORT VALE
TUESDAY 5 MARCH, KICK-OFF 1.00PM
Latics aim to extend their three-match unbeaten run when they host league leaders Port Vale at Christopher Park on Tuesday afternoon.
A dramatic 3-3 draw against Grimsby Town last-time out saw Nick Chadwick’s side grab a late point at Cheapside training ground, despite falling behind twice in the game with three goals in the last eight minutes.
Goals from Luke Burgess, Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Jolley earned Latics a hard-fought point, with the latter scoring a 93rd minute equaliser from the penalty spot.
Though, comprehensive wins against Rotherham United (4-0) and Notts County (4-1), mean Latics remain unbeaten in their last three Central League games, with their last defeat coming against Doncaster Rovers (2-3) in January.
Meanwhile, visitors Port Vale will be hoping to extend their two-point lead over second-placed, Rotherham United at the top of the table. The Valiants’ 4-1 win over Latics back in November will give them confidence arriving at Christopher Park.
Joe Piggott equalised for Latics in the 32nd minute, though three second-half goals from Port Vale saw Latics fall to defeat against an experienced outfit.
With Latics tallying an impressive 17 goals from their last five games, Chadwick will be hoping his Latics side can return to winning ways and maintain their impressive form.
