England's Under 17s successfully booked their place at the UEFA U17 European Championships in Ireland this May, with Latics Under 18 star Joe Gelhardt on target in a dramatic 3-2 victory against Elite Round hosts Denmark to clinch top spot in their qualifying group.
The 16-year-old, who has 16 goals for Latics' Under 18s so far this season, came on as a second half substitute and scored with three minutes of the 90 remaining to make it 2-1 to England with his seventh in 12 appearances. Moments into stoppage time Denmark equalised, but fellow substitute Nonso Madueke grabbed his second in the closing moments to clinch the game 3-2.
Jensen Weir featured for 56 minutes to claim his ninth international appearance at this level.
