Latics head to Ewood Park for a North-West derby on Tuesday evening, aiming to bounce back from a cruel late defeat away at Reading FC on Saturday afternoon.

Paul Cook's side head into the game in 20th place on 36 points, three points clear of Rotherham United in the final relegation place, knowing a victory against Blackburn could see Latics rise back up to 19th above the Royals who face Leeds United at 8.00pm.

Rovers sit 17th on 44 points after a tough run of six defeats from their previous seven matches, including a derby day loss to Preston North End last Saturday.

EARLY TEAM NEWS

WIGAN ATHLETIC

Latics made four changes against Reading FC on Saturday, with Antonee Robinson returning from an ankle injury, Jonas Olsson making his debut in defence, Nick Powell starting for the first time since his hamstring and calf injuries and Joe Garner in for Leon Clarke.

Squad rotation saw a number of players miss out on the 18-man match day squad, with Anthony Pilkington sidelined through an injury to his knee.

Speaking on iFollow Latics on Monday morning, Latics boss Paul Cook said the forward could return at the weekend against Bolton Wanderers, but is more likely to be involved after the international break.

Cook said:

"Anthony has had a problem with his knee, but I've been updated this morning and he's going to be back out on the grass this week, with a small chance of a return to the squad at the weekend."

He also added:

"It's been a tough week and it was a tough journey home for everyone on Saturday.

"We always come in a bit later on a Monday, have a bit of lunch and regroup properly.

"Our supporters will know that we make team selection decisions based on what is right and correct. What we want with the remaining games to come is to have our best players fit for as many games as possible.

"We all know the importance of every game, so we have to make decisions with the club's best interests at heart."

BLACKBURN ROVERS

Tony Mowbray has selection issues at the back for Tuesday night's game, with hamstring injuries to three of his key defenders.

Darragh Lenihan hasn't feature for Rovers since the start of February, whilst Jack Rodwell missed Saturday's clash with Preston North End and Charlie Mulgrew limped off.
