Wigan Athletic fell to a hugely disappointing defeat at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night as their Sky Bet Championship away troubles continued.
Danny Graham scored either side of half-time to give Tony Mowbray’s side the lead before Bradley Dack’s late goal ensured all three points for the hosts.
Latics made one change to their starting XI from Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Reading, with Wales international Lee Evans replacing Nathan Byrne who missed out due to illness.
Dack shot wide for the first chance of the game on two minutes before Nick Powell curled a free-kick over from the edge of the area minutes later.
Joe Garner headed off target from a Lee Evans corner before Dack spurned a couple of opportunities for the hosts as Latics struggled to gain control of the game – the first of those two chances for Dack being well-saved by Jamie Jones.
Latics took a huge blow eight minutes before half-time, though, as Reece James caught Harrison Reed when trying to clear in the penalty area and referee Christopher Kavanagh pointed to the spot. Graham stepped up and put away the penalty clinically.
Cook replaced Gavin Massey with Callum McManaman at half-time and the winger immediately created an opportunity for Powell, but his header went off the outside of the post and wide.
A James cross then found Garner but he headed off target once more as Latics’ search for a goal continued.
However, their task was made much harder when a long ball forward found Graham in behind the Latics defence and he slotted home calmly.
Evans fired wide from range and substitute Josh Windass forced a save from David Raya as Latics looked for a response but, in truth, chances were rare.
Dack’s third summed up a hugely frustrating defeat with Latics facing their most important game of the season on Saturday when local rivals Bolton Wanderers visit the DW Stadium.
