Katie Leadbetter's double and Amy Taylor's penalty saw Latics claim an impressive 3-0 final win against Golborne Girls.

  • Match Report: Wigan Athletic Ladies U15s v Golborne Girls.
  • Victory for Latics over Golborne in the Girls County Cup.
  • Katie Leadbetter (x2) and Amy Taylor were on target for the U15s.

Goals from Katie Leadbetter (x2) and a penalty from Amy Taylor helped Wigan Athletic Ladies and Girls’ Under 15s team to success in the Girls County Cup after a 3-0 victory over Golborne Girls.

A strike from Leadbetter and a spot kick from Taylor fired Latics into a commanding half-time lead before Leadbetter netted her second of the game after the break to put the gloss on an emphatic win.

Latics started the better of the two teams and had the game’s first opportunity early on when Leadbetter rounded the goalkeeper but her left footed effort was cleared off the line.

Their opponents grew into the game however and Daisy Burns went close when her speculative long-range free kick went narrowly over the bar.

Leadbetter wasn’t to be denied a second time though and she opened the scoring just shy of the half hour mark as she drilled a powerful shot into the bottom corner.

Burns was later adjudged to have handled inside the area and the referee pointed to the spot, meaning Taylor stepped up to score and extend Latics’ advantage.

Louisa Refell nearly pulled one back for Golborne before half-time but sliced wide, however Leadbetter put the game beyond doubt in the 63rd minute as she latched onto Wright's pass to slot home.

Leah Hodkinson went close to finding a fourth late on but her shot was smartly saved, and Refell had another chance in the final moments but saw her strike fly just wide of the post.
