Wigan Athletic’s End of Season Party in Mesnes Park saw Chelsea loanee Reece James collect a trio of awards as his incredible first season in senior football was completed in style.

Latics fans braved the rain to see their new hero lift the Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Goal of the Season awards in Mesnes Park after a campaign in which he has been named in the Football Manager Championship Team of the Season, won numerous Currys PC World Wigan Player of the Month awards and more accolades from supporters and pundits alike.

Voted for by his teammates, James first lifted the Players’ Player of the Year award and was presented the trophy by Nathan Byrne, who won the trophy last season.

Next up, captain Samy Morsy presented Reece with the Player of the Year award voted for by the club’s supporters, with over 96% of the votes going to the Chelsea loanee.

And, finally, James won the Kingdom Services Group Goal of the Season award for his strike at Bristol City.

Speaking after the event, James said:

“Thank you to my teammates, the supporters that voted for me and the manager and his staff – it’s been so enjoyable.

“I couldn’t have imagined this season going so well and everyone has made me so welcome from the start – I will never forget what this club has done for me.”
