Toney signed a season-long deal at the DW Stadium after impressing during previous loan spells with Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town and Scunthorpe United. He has already appeared in all four divisions in his short career to date.

CAREER SO FAR
Northampton-born Toney’s career began with his hometown club, where he made his first-team debut aged just 16 in an FA Cup tie with Bradford City in November 2012. He went on to establish himself as one of the EFL’s most promising young strikers when he bagged ten goals for the Cobblers in the 2014-15 campaign, whilst aged just 19.
His form at Sixfields prompted Newcastle United to secure his services in the summer of 2015, with the Magpies handing Toney a Premier League debut in September 2015 against Chelsea.
Toney then joined Barnsley on loan during the 2015-16 season, scoring his first goal for the Tykes at the DW Stadium as Lee Johnson’s side defeated us on penalties in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Section Area final on penalties. He made a further 19 appearances for Barnsley, helping them to the Johnstone Paint Trophy and Sky Bet League One play-off double.
In 2016-17, Toney began the campaign with Shrewsbury, scoring seven goals in 19 games in all competitions before switching to Scunthorpe at the top end of League One, where he added another seven goals as the Iron reached the play-off semi-finals before losing to Millwall.
