Highly experienced Scotland international goalkeeper, who has experience of playing in every division in England, plus the Scottish Premier League.
Gilks signed for Latics from Scottish Premiership side Rangers in January 2017 on an 18-month contract until the summer of 2018.
Boasting over 360 league games, mainly split between his spells with Rochdale and Blackpool, Gilks has also had spells with Norwich City, Shrewsbury Town and Burnley.
Capped three times by Scotland, Gilks helped Blackpool to win promotion to the Premier League in 2010 and later won the club's Player of the Year award in 2014 prior to his move to Turf Moor.
North of the border at Ibrox, where he moved in the summer of 2016, Gilks played in just Scottish League Cup games for the Gers as deputy to Wes Foderingham.
He made his Latics debut versus at Fulham in February 2017, coming on as a half-time substitute after Jakob Haugaard suffered concussion.
