Nathan Byrne and Jamie Jones visited Hope School ahead of their visit to the Blue Room at the DW Stadium earlier this season.

  • Blue Room is an inclusive facility in the East Stand of the DW Stadium.
  • Young disabled fans and their families can enjoy various activities.
  • Premier League Fans Fund gave Latics funding of £18,350 for the room.

Youngsters from Hope School, Hawkley Hall High School, Landgate School and Embrace Wigan and Leigh are just some of the Latics supporters to have enjoyed an inclusive match day experience in the Blue Room at the DW Stadium since it opened underneath the East Stand earlier this season.

A facility in the club’s Family Zone for Latics’ junior disabled fans, the Blue Room is a safe environment for young people to enjoy a variety of fun and inclusive activities on home match days.

The Blue Room was made possible thanks to a grant of £18,350 from the Premier League Fans Fund to Wigan Athletic Community Trust to enable Latics to improve their junior disabled supporters' offering.

Young fans and their families can access the Blue Room at every home league weekend fixture at the DW Stadium, with the facility free to enter and open from 1.30pm.

Becky Adams, Community Trust coach, said: “I first started volunteering for the Trust on the Every Player Counts disability sports programme and that helped to improve my confidence as it gave me a chance to learn how to become a better coach and improve skills such as communication.

She added: “Working in the Blue Room on home match days has been really good because I’ve met so many new people and hopefully improved their experience of the DW Stadium at the same time."

Byrne and Gavin Massey have visited the Blue Room on match days this season to meet a number of the club’s junior disabled fans and their families.
